Prep'd Picks | Lands' End Early Spring

Plus Size Lands' End Cricket Sweater
Printed pants // Buy now, wear through Fall. Depending on the weather, I'd hook these pants up with cable knit navy sweater or white button down for work, or a simple tee for boating on the river. I like to have a few things with such a bold print because it really adds a lot of style to an outfit.

Nylon bag // A nice, coated nylon bag that comes in a few colors and prints, similar to a Longchamp Le Pliage only nowhere near as expensive. You can also get it monogrammed.

Perforated flats // I had a pair of shoes similar to these a few years ago that I wore everywhere. Alas, they became victims of Great Teething Puppy Incident of 2011. The perforations help to keep feet cool, and I like the cap toe for those days when you're pedicure isn't looking its best.

Nautical scarf // I'm wanting to expend my scarf collection beyond the basic long rectangular shape. I love the sailboat print and the colors that make it perfect for spring.

Scoopneck tee // My mom hates that most tees these days seem to have cap sleeves. These have elbow length sleeves (my faveorite length) and come in several great colors. I also like they have a tunic length and curved hem.

Cricket sweater // A cricket sweater has been on my wish list for quite some time. I haven't found one that was plus sized (well, at the time) and was seriously considering just getting a man's. It's also available in navy blue with red trim, which I may get later on down the road.

Colorblock ponte dress // I'm just a big fan of ponte dresses, and the few I have Lands' End I wear all summer. I love the shape, length, color, just everything on this dress. Also, be sure to check out the back, it's great as well.

Hello, Friday! | The Devil's In the Details

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5
I have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to outfit inspirations. I like to look at from time to time to see if there's a look that would make a good post. A majority of these outfits are straight style, so when it comes to finding similar items, sometimes I'm out of luck. I tried to find a pleat navy skirt and couldn't find anything, except school uniform skirt.

Looking at the outfit above, it looks simple enough. Navy skirt, red cable knit sweater with booties. But take a closer look at it. What makes it really stand out? It's the details: the knit of the sweater, the shape of the skirt. That's what makes this so much more than just a navy pencil skirt and the first red sweater out of the closet. I thought it shouldn't be too hard to find a red cable knit sweater and a navy blue skirt that had either volume or a tulip shape to it. I had trouble finding either of those two items.

This is just a nice casual outfit, but when you add in the details like the belt, booties with bows on them, and a skirt with some movement and shape, it really elevates the look.

-Target is releasing a new plus size line called AVA & VIV. Target released a teaser video with several well-known plus size bloggers talking about the line. From the bit I saw in the video, I'm not impressed. It looks like stuff already being sold by the likes of Eloquii and looks to be more stuff I can't wear to work. The line will be carried in stores and online.

-My life is still messy from my recent move. I haven't been able to fully unpack because I didn't have any rods in my closet. I'm hoping the tension rods I bought work, because I'm tired of tripping over boxes of dresses. The box with my shoes? It's still sitting in the back of my car. I'm hoping this weekend will be calmer than the last, so I can get a whole bunch of stuff done and relax a bit.

Prep'd Picks | Blue + Citron

Ever since I moved on Monday, it has been cold, icy, snowy, and more or less depressing.
Is it spring yet?

I set out to find lots of bright, cheerful colors but ended up with lots of blue without thinking about it. Wrap dresses are a great wardrobe edition. If you get the right one, you can get it to flatter whatever you want to. They also transition into whatever sort of outfit you may need with just accessories.  Also of note is the scalloped striped sweater. They truly take this sweater from being just a general nice sweater into something really special.

However, my favorite pieces today are an outfit idea I found at JC Penney. I first noticed the great color blocked sweater. If you're like me and have a lot of blue and grays in your closet this cardigan would be a fantastic addition. I also like citron because it's bright without venturing into neon highlighter territory (Ms. Lyons, neon is over. Please stop). And yes, I said it. Neon is over. It's too overdone at this point and feels dated. Anyways, citron brings the warmth and cheer I crave and pairs wonderfully with a lot of the pastels that start to come out for spring. I've been seeing lots of light blue this year, which is reflected in the button up shirt. When I first saw the shirt, I thought it had birds on it, but when I zoomed in and saw they were actually swimmers it was love at first sight. Totally whimsical and totally a Lilly-a-Like. It's a super fun outfit that will work well even through summer (how cute would this be by the lake on a chilly summer night?).

Hello, Friday! | Too Cold + TGIF

I am still knee deep in packing and trying to get everything ready for my move next Monday. Prep'd Picks for next week will be on Wednesday and therefore no post on Monday. In the meantime,
have a nice weekend and think warm thoughts.

-In case you haven't heard already, Lilly Pulitzer is coming to Target and she's bringing plus sizes!

-However, the plus sizes are only going to be offered online. There's already backlash brewing against the decision to not carry them in store.

I try to keep politics off this blog--body/sizing politics especially-- but I'd like to add my two cents to this argument. The number one driver of traffic to this blog is people looking for plus size Lilly Pulitzer clothing. Despite being a very small niche blog, variations of the search terms "Lilly Pulitzer Plus Sizes" bring me thousands of hits a week and many people have converted into regular readers. For this, I thank you very much. Now getting back to the matter at hand, I think the hostility towards Target is unwarranted and ridiculous. As a plus size community, we keep begging and pleading designers and stores to carry merchandise in our sizes. When someone finally relents, in this case Target and Lilly Pulitzer, we get angry despite getting the very thing we asked for and raise hell on social media. I fear if the loudest of the plus size community are going to be the angry ones, brands and designers are just going to decide that plus sizes are not going to be worth the time, money, and effort if it's just going to result in negative press. Are we more concerned with winning the war of getting more available in our size, or are we spending too much time and effort on an insignificant battle?

-One brave soul documented her trials in trying on ten pairs of size 16 jeans.

-The Baby Center website has a great list of various baby-related items that are available in plus sizes, such as carriers and nursing bras.

-Again with the unnecessary anger: an Old Navy email "insults" plus sizes with their design layout.

Moving On Up

Posting will be light this week. Over the weekend, I accepted a job that requires a hasty move--I start on the 12th--and I still have to work through this week. This leaves me little time to pack and let me tell you, you never truly know how much you have until you have to pack it all. Things I wouldn't have given up a week ago are currently being thrown into the giveaway box with less than a second of thought. It's somewhat liberating. One of the perks of my new job is that housing is provided, albeit in the form of a semi-furnished apartment (for the record, this is how you recruit folks to move to rural West Virginia). Right now I'm trying to go through my massive stash of makeup, most of which I'm going to give up since wearing makeup has gone by the wayside since I've had shingles.

Anyways, this week will be pretty light and I expect the same for early next week. It's somewhat painful to even window shop when you're trying to part with parts of your wardrobe.

Hello, Friday! | The Best of 2014

Everything pictured above are the absolute favorite things from 2014.  With the exception of the purse (it was a Christmas gift), I bought everything here and would do so again in a heartbeat.

Old Navy Pixie Pants // I've bought three pairs this year, and this Nantucket Red pair is next on my list. Since Old Navy's vanity sizing--and clothing stretch-- is out of hand, I recommend going down a size.

MAC Cosmetics Mineralize Rich Lipstick // This is from their current 'Lightness of Being' line which I think may actually be for spring but this is hands down the best lipstick I've bought all year. I picked up Style Surge, a cheerful coral that's been a nice pick-me-up during these gray days.

Lands' End Chalet wedge Chukka booties // My Clarks Wallabees are among my favorite pair of shoes but I've been getting tired of wearing them everyday to work.

J.Crew 57 Perfume // A lot of perfumes bother me, but this unique fragrance starts off with whiskey notes to dry down into a soft vanilla/oak woods scent by the end of the day. There's also a sister fragrance, 31, that I want to pick up that I would describe as an oriental floral that would be great for spring and summer.

Longchamp Le Pliege // I've actually had one of these bags before, but I can't say enough great things about them. They last forever and style-wish they're pretty neutral, perfect for the woman who wants just one bag.  I've seen professionals use them down to the casual stroller on a weekend morning. They also come in a million colors and several sizes so it's easy to please anyone.

Tom Ford Coral Beach Polish //  I guess you could call this the year of coral. I love this polish and wear it all the time. Even though it was for Tom Ford's summer collection, I've found it to work in the fall and winter.

Land's End Drifter Sweater //  I'm wearing this sweater as I type this and it's fantastic. It's thicker than most sweaters and the weave design on the front is a nice detail. I will say this runs a tad smaller than most of Land's End clothing. It's on the short side compared with their other sweaters and the sleeves are just barely come down to my wrists. If you're taller than me (5'11") or have long arms take that into account.

-Eloquii is starting to offer selected items in sizes 26-28. If there's enough demand, those sizes will move to the rest of their line. This is a fantastic move on their part and one that I hope a lot of other brands will start follow.

-Despite the body acceptance movement that flows in the plus size community, many feel that that only hourglass shapes are the ones being celebrated.

-Many plus size models are being asked to wear fat pads for their shoots. Yes, you read that right.

-The New York Times discusses how the plus size industry has expanded in the past year. Of note is the $6 million investment that was made to Eloquii. Hopefully they'll use some of that money to make something I can wear to work that isn't a bodycon dress, crop top, or made of scuba/neoprene.

-Mark your planners! Lilly Pulitzer's throwing a sale starting January 5th at 8:00 EST! If you want to make sure you get your hands on something, read my post from their last sale with my tips.
